Panel: Art Under Pressure

On 8 October, Kunstkritikk will host a panel discussion with editors of art magazines from the Baltics and Nordics.

On Wednesday 8 October at 18:30, at Litteraturhuset in Oslo, Kunstkritikk will host a panel discussion with editors of art magazines from the Baltics and Nordics. Currently, the art field faces increasing pressure, both financially and in terms of freedom of expression – a global trend observed to varying degrees across these regions. The editors will share perspectives from their respective countries and discuss strategies to strengthen conversations on art and culture, both locally and internationally.

The Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum (ACMPF) is a network that connects art and culture magazines across the Baltic and Nordic countries. In addition to the Nordic magazine Kunstkritikk, the network includes Artnews.lt and Echo Gone Wrong from Lithuania, A Shade Colder from Estonia, WunderKombinats from Latvia, EDIT from Finland, and Art in Iceland from Iceland. The forum’s aim is to foster communication between publications in these neighbouring regions, build connections with writers, share knowledge and experience to meet the daily challenges faced by cultural magazines, and introduce readers to new and emerging voices.

Participants in the panel are Vitalija Jasaitė (Artnews.lt/Echo Gone Wrong), Kaarin Kivirähk (A Shade Colder), Elīna Ķempele (WunderKombinats), Rosa Kuosmanen (EDIT), and Becky Forsythe (Art in Iceland). Mariann Enge (Kunstkritikk) will moderate the conversation.

Recent print issues from the visiting publications will be on display during the event.

This public discussion forms part of the Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum’s research trip to Oslo. The network’s activities are funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, with additional support for the panel from the Fritt Ord Foundation, Norway and Norsk tidsskriftforening.
