Marit Paasche holds a dr. philos in art history from NTNU – Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. She is an independent researcher, author, and curator, with extensive experience in contemporary art. Paasche has served as head of research at the Video Art Archive and taught at The Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo for several years. Her curatorial work includes exhibitions such as Hannah Ryggen. Woven Manifestos at Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt (2019-2020), Minerva’s Voice at the University Museum in Bergen (2019-2028), and We are Living on a Star at Henie Onstad Art Centre (2014). She is currently preparing an exhibition for Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, scheduled for 2027.
Paasche is the author of Hannah Ryggen. Threads of Defiance (Thames and Hudson and University of Chicago Press, 2019). She is now working on a trilogy about Norwegian art history, with the first volume, Søvn og lykke. Norsk kunst og det moderne gjennombruddet (Universitetsforlaget), published in 2024. This volume is being translated for publication in English by Scandinavian University Press and will be available in 2026. Some of her other works includes Lives and Videotapes: The Inconsistent History of Norwegian Video Art (Feil forlag, 2014) and Et annet lerret. Fire historier om film og billedkunst (Feil forlag, 2013), the latter available only in Norwegian.
