The Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum (ACMPF) announces an open call for an experienced writer, critic, or cultural journalist to join the network during a research trip to Reykjavík, Iceland, hosted by Art in Iceland.
ACMPF is a collaborative network of contemporary art and culture publishers across the Baltic and Nordic region, including A Shade Colder (Estonia), Artnews.lt and Echo Gone Wrong (Lithuania), EDIT (Finland), Kunstkritikk (Nordic countries), Art in Iceland (Iceland), and WunderKombinats (Latvia). The network fosters long-term working relationships between publishers, editors, and writers, strengthens the circulation of critical discourse, and creates space for shared learning and experience around the evolving conditions of cultural publishing.
The 2026 research trip to Reykjavík will bring together publishers and invited participants to engage with the Icelandic art scene and its wider Nordic-Baltic context. Through studio visits and meetings, conversations and collective inquiry, the programme aims to deepen understanding of regional practices within the Nordic-Baltic art field, while building sustained editorial and writerly connections.
The selected writer will have demonstrated publishing experience in art criticism or cultural journalism, and the ability to work both independently and in dialogue with editors and peers. We value writers who are attentive to context, responsive to place and interested in shaping nuanced, critically engaged narratives.
Applicants must be based in the Nordic and/or Baltic region, including Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, and Åland. The selected writer is expected to be available for the full duration of the network research trip in Reykjavík, scheduled for 14-16 October 2026.
Travel to and from Reykjavík, accommodation, and meals during the programme will be covered by the network. In addition, the selected writer will receive a EUR 500 participation fee.
Following the research trip, the writer will be invited to develop at least one piece of critical writing in dialogue with the network. The text will be considered for publication in one or more ACMPF-affiliated platforms. A publication fee will be agreed upon with the respective publisher(s) in accordance with their editorial standards.
Applications can be submitted until 12 June 2026 (midnight, EET) to: artnews@artnews.lt. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews in June 2026.
Each application must include:
– A brief letter of motivation outlining the applicant’s interests and reasons for applying
– A selection of published works (up to 3 texts). Submissions may be in any of the network’s languages; at least one text in English is preferred.
– A current CV.
By applying, applicants agree that their contact details will be shared among the ACMPF network members for the purpose of the selection process. We are unfortunately unable to provide individual feedback, but applicants will be notified once the selection process is completed.
The Arts and Culture Magazine Publishers Forum (ACMPF) is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture. This open call is the third and final in relation to the ACMPF annual research trips. Previous trips have taken place in Helsinki/Tallinn and Oslo.
